Rose Festival Karlovo
Rose Festival is one of the most remarkable celebrations in Karlovo municipality, dedicated to beauty and flowers spring and fragrance of the precious Karlovo rose. The tradition is celebrated goes back to the early years of the twentieth century and with few interruptions continues to this day. In celebration the city is filled with beauty and humor, dances and songs with irresistible aroma of Her Majesty Rose.
The celebration begins with a ritual “picking” in the rose gardens around the city – authentic coming from past dance featuring the amateur folk groups from Karlovo Municipality.
Sound cheerful tunes of bagpipe orchestra. Young people in costumes demonstrate the gathering of pink.
Guests are greeted with ritual bread and a bunch of roses and geraniums.
Mummers dance imported universal excitement.
Amid slow melody of flute of pink field appears Queen of Roses, which will be crowned by last year’s winner of the title.
The new queen welcomes all attendees and invites them to pick pink color of her kingdom.
Guests watch the fascinating dance “picking”. Winds are lively Bulgarian horo.
From the gardens, the holiday is transferred to the city center, where a separate “Open mike” – choirs and groups perform their songs and tourists can walk among them, to listen and to take pictures.
With colorful procession Queen of Roses enters the city center.
Folk groups from the municipality and visiting groups fascinate with songs and dances.
Lot’s “Alley of the Rose” with tents, where they presented local crafts and industries associated with the rose.
The celebration continues with a demonstration of rose oil in the Historical Museum – familiarity with the process through which the fragrant flower to become famous worldwide rose oil. Use authentic dishes from the eighteenth century.
Guests quaffing rose brandy, liqueur and sweet roses.
In front of the museum visitors can again enjoy the rich rhythms of local folklore.
